VINCENT
BRENNAN : 1926-2009
It is a sad day for the Community of St John's with the passing of Mr. Brennan! One
cannot write or say enough about Vince. For many he was there during our first shy steps
in JOY and it was his hand that we confidently shook when we graduated from GOYA. He was with us at
every practice, every game, every function, cheering and supporting
us. Constantly working for the youth and the community of Saint John's.
The "eternal" Youth adviser of St John's was also a dedicated board member
who always
answered the call even when personal tragedy struck his family on 9/11. He was a mentor
to many within the church and humility was the first lesson he taught.
Later in life when he had stepped back, you could still find Vince on the lawn in
the front of the Church with a softball in one hand surrounded by young children
playing catch or teaching them how to throw the ball or run a race. He
was always on the "lookout" for
the next Blue Point champ and he always found that Champ in every boy and girl that made
up Saint John's youth. In his eyes we were all champions, each and every one of
us.
In First Corinthians 9.24-27, St Paul writes about "running the good
race", well Vince ran probably the best race anyone at Blue Point has ever
seen!
